July is here, and we've got lots going on!

Summer Reading Challenge, Read to the Beat!

This year's Summer Reading Challenge has a music theme, Read to the Beat and we're thrilled to be taking part alongside our neighbours at The Book Stop. It's simple: borrow books from us, and nip down to The Book Stop to sign up, track your reading and collect your rewards. With two great spaces for books just a short walk apart, it's never been easier to keep the kids reading all summer long and it's completely free. Come and see us!

Events this month

We've got two great evenings coming up. On Thursday 23 July, bestselling author Linda Green joins us to talk about her brand new novel If I Had My Time Again. And on Saturday 25 July, bring the little ones along for a free Story Time, Sugarlump and the Unicorn for ages 3–7, just turn up at 10:30am.

July dates we love

17 July is World Emoji Day 😊 and 18 July is Nelson Mandela Day, a lovely reminder of the difference communities can make when they come together. Sounds like The Old Library to us.

Opening times: Tuesday–Thursday and Saturday–Sunday, 10am–4pm. Wednesdays we stay open until 7pm. Closed Mondays and Fridays.

The Old Library is delighted to announce its Summer Fun programme, six weeks of themed craft sessions for children aged 3 to 10, running every Thursday from 23 July through to 27 August 2026. Taking place each week at The Old Library, Skircoat Green, the sessions are designed to spark creativity, imagination, and a love of making. With a new theme each week, there's something for every young explorer, from artistic adventures to hands-on building challenges.
