A (Slightly Late) July Wrap-Up, and Hello, August!
What a month July was.
July was one of our busiest months yet, and we loved every minute of it.
We launched our Summer Craft Fun series, every Thursday through to 27 August, the library garden fills up with children making the most brilliant things. Paint a Pot kicked things off beautifully, followed by Minecraft and Pokémon.
Under the Sea, Construction and Dinosaur Exploration are still to come. If you haven't brought the kids along yet, there's still plenty of summer left.
We welcomed author Linda Green for an evening about her new novel If I Had My Time Again, a warm, funny, heartfelt story set partly right here in Halifax. It was a wonderful night, and if you missed it, her books are on our shelves waiting for you.
Our Sugarlump and the Unicorn children's storytime was pure magic, Julia Donaldson never disappoints and the Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing in partnership with our neighbours at The Book Stop. If your little ones are taking part, keep going! There's still time.
And then, on 13 July, we shared something rather exciting: The Old Library is approaching 100 years of serving Skircoat Green. The response from you, the community, was overwhelming. More on that very soon.
Meanwhile, August is already happening
Yorkshire Day came and went on 1 August, we hope you celebrated in fine Yorkshire fashion (tea, plain speaking, and a good book). And International Cat Day on 8 August means we are still absolutely accepting photos of your cats. Ideally reading. Bonus points for paws on pages.
The Summer Craft Fun Thursdays continues right through to 27 August, 10:30am–12:30pm, free, ages 3–10, no booking needed just turn up. Come for the crafting, stay for the cake.
The big one: our centenary
We'll be sharing much more about this very soon, but we can tell you now: September is going to be special. The Old Library turns 100 this year, and we are planning celebrations worthy of a century of community. Watch this space, and if you have memories, old photographs, or stories connected to the library over the years, we would genuinely love to hear them. Drop us a message or pop in and tell us in person.
